The location of the Carter House where some of the bloodiest fighting took place and where Stuart Hoskinson was wounded in action is shown just south of the town. (Note north is toward the bottom of the page.) When the battle ended, Stuart was taken to a field hospital located in the Presbyterian Church in Franklin. The Union army then retreated, leaving Stuart and other Union wounded to be captured by the Confederate Army. He remained a confederate prisoner in the church until the Union Army recaptured Franklin on Dec 17, 1864. Loading...
