Of course this "riled" Abe to a considerable extent and the two had quite a wordy combat, but no blows were struck."

In doing so he slipped and threw his leg directly under the falling ax, which cut through the flesh to the bone....Dr. Gamble rendered professional aid, and is now in a fair way to recover without it disfigurement."

    This article gives a bit more details and notes that Blandinsville had no fire equipment. "C. A. Fisher lost a building, all of his household goods, and most of his stock of notions. The total loss was from $2.000 ta $2,500 with but $500 insurance....There ls no firefighting appliance in Blandinsville and water ie scarce there. The citizens who hastily assembled could do little, although they worked heroically removing goods from the buildings and carrying water from the few paces obtainable....Only 20 feet west is a dwelling house, owned and occupied by William Fisher. This caught on fire several times but was saved. With the scant means of
    fighting fire people are marveling that the building still stands."

    "Orval (should read Orville) Fisher and Edward Hamilton of Blandinsville was arrested Saturday night, the former being charged with intoxication and using profane language and the latter with intoxication and attempt to escape an officer....At the hearing before Magistrate Champ on Monday both plead guilty to the charges against them, the fine and costs in Hamilton's case amounting to $19.25. Fisher's fine and costs amounted to $8.09. Being unable to pay up or furnish bonds they were again committed to jail....Fisher remained in jail until yesterday when there arrived from Blandinsville the amount necessary to liberate him."
